What are electronic components?

Present in most home electrical systems or production and business enterprises, but not everyone knows the concept of “What are electronic components?”

Electronic components are basic discrete elements with definite features that are used for coupling into electrical circuits or electronic devices.

Currently, in any machine system in factories or even in household electrical systems, we also see the presence of these electronic components. Electronic components are indispensable elements in today’s electrical circuits.

Section type of electronic components

There are many different criteria that make it possible to classify electronic components, the most common of which is the method of classification based on the impact on the electrical signal,  ignoring the effect on the current. DC power supply if not needed such as large capacity, heat, interference, etc.

Learn the concept of “What is an Electronic Component?” and classification

It can be divided into 3 basic types as follows:

Electro-mechanical components

There is an electrical action associated with a mechanism such as quartz, switches:

  • Fuses, protection
  • Switches, switches
  • Connector
  • Piezoelectric ceramic element

Passive (passive) components

This is a component with 2 connectors (2-terminal component). Although they can also increase voltage or current by a transformer or resonant circuit, they are not capable of  injecting energy into the circuits to which they are connected. Even they cannot rely on a power source unless one is available when connected to the circuits (AC).

  • Antenna
  • Transducer, sensor
  • Networks
  • Memristor
  • Electromagnetic induction
  • Capacitor
  • Resistance

Active components

This type of device relies on an energy source and is usually capable of feeding electricity into an electrical circuit.

  • Power supply
  • Vacuum electronic lamps: microwave lamps, photovoltaic lamps, photomultiplier lamps,…
  • Electronics, display: Neon, CRT, plasma display,…
  • Semiconductor components: integrated circuits, Transistors, Diodes (Rectifier diodes, schottky diodes, Zener diodes, TVS diodes, varicap, LED, laser, photodiode, DIAC,…)…

Some basic electronic components are applied popular

Resistor

Resistor is a passive electronic component with 2 connected contacts, the function is to adjust the signal level, limit the amperage flowing in the circuit, used to divide the voltage, activate the electrical components. Active electronics such as transistors, terminal contacts in power lines, and in many other applications.

Power resistors help to dissipate a large amount of electrical energy converted to thermal energy in power distribution systems, in motor control units. Resistors usually have a fixed impedance, little changed by temperature and operating voltage.

Capacitor

A capacitor is a passive electronic device composed of two parallel plates separated by a dielectric. When there is a potential difference at the two surfaces, at the surfaces there will be an electric charge of the same amount but of opposite sign.

LEDs

LED stands for Light-Emitting-Diode, is a lighting device with LED technology. These light-emitting diodes are contained in a semiconductor chip, the electrons in the chip will operate when a power source flows through to fill the gap to produce light radiation.

Transistor

Transistor or transistor is a type of active semiconductor device, often used as an amplifier element or an electronic key. Transistors are part of the basic unit block that forms a circuit structure in electronic computers and all other modern electronic devices.

Colour

An inductor is a type of passive electronic component made up of an electrical conductor with several turns, which generates a magnetic field when an electric current flows through it.

IC

A microchip, or integrated circuit, or integrated circuit is a collection of electrical circuits containing semiconductor and passive electronic components that are connected together, to perform a specified function.

With the concept of “What are electronic components?” As well as its common classifications and applications, we can confirm the indispensable role of electronic components in daily life.
