Poor input components and not quality inspection make imported electric bicycles long, floating, potentially posing many safety risks to users when circulating and affecting domestic production.
With a growth rate of about 30%/year and sales of up to millions of units, the market for two-wheeled electric vehicles (e-bikes, electric motorbikes) is very fertile. Also because electric cars are increasingly interested by consumers, so many organizations and individuals have smuggled, fake this item for profit.
As ICTNews reflects in the published series of articles, the market reality shows that consumers and genuine electric vehicle businesses in Vietnam have to face many illegal electric vehicle products and vehicles. unknown origin. These vehicles are not inspected and controlled by the authorities for quality but are still sold on the market.
A representative of a domestic electric vehicle company also estimated that up to 90% of electric bicycles and electric bicycle components on the market are of unknown origin. The reason is that current regulations do not require electric bike riders to register for a license plate like electric motorbikes, so many organizations and individuals have taken advantage of this loophole to make profit.
Fake electric cars, of unknown origin, when launched on the market, have a design that is not much different from genuine cars. Many consumers who do not study carefully will not be able to detect which is a pirated car, which is a genuine car. Mr. Le Thanh, owner of an electric vehicle system revealed: “The form of counterfeiting of car models is very sophisticated, so it is difficult for customers to distinguish”.
Smuggled components are brought to Vietnam through unofficial channels. After assembling the finished product, it will be quickly delivered to the distribution systems in many provinces and cities across the country, especially selling a lot at agents at the district and town levels.
These vehicles have a lot of potential to cause accidents when operating because of poor input quality and not passing censorship and evaluation from regulatory agencies. “If you buy floating cars, you will face the risk that when you use them or break them, the use time is short. Along with that, there are unsafe braking problems and the steering systems are very poor, going for a very fast time to degrade,” said Mr. Le Thanh.
When the product has a problem, the biggest loss will be on the consumer side. Poor quality products will cause customers a lot of trouble during use, especially the warranty of these product lines is often inferior. That is not to mention the problems of traffic safety, fire and explosion that are dangerous to life.
Facing these risks, the leader of an electric vehicle company said that controlling the quality and origin of electric bicycles and electric motorbikes will help consumers avoid unfortunate consequences.
Business is difficult to live, the State loses revenue
As a convenient, economical and environmentally friendly vehicle, many Vietnamese people are still skeptical about the quality of electric vehicles.
Explaining this, representatives of many electric car manufacturers said, partly because the poor quality cars have caused an unfriendly look from users. This is also the reason why smuggled, low-quality vehicles are a threat to the sustainable development that many electric vehicle businesses are building.
A representative of a domestic electric vehicle company shared that these smuggled vehicles seriously affect genuine electric vehicle manufacturers in Vietnam in particular and the electric vehicle industry in general, when causing serious decisions. advise users about cheap, temporary cars.
With the same opinion, a representative of an electric motorcycle manufacturer in Vietnam also said that smuggled vehicles sold on the market make it difficult for genuine businesses to change customers’ perceptions. row.
In addition, the lack of transparency on quality and price not only directly affects consumers or genuine businesses, but also causes great losses to the State budget. Without specifying the number, but a business representative said that with hundreds of thousands of untested cars sold each year, the State budget could lose trillions of dong because of tax evasion tactics.
The risk of environmental pollution if not handled properly
Bicycles and electric scooters on the market today often use batteries or batteries to operate. In particular, electric bicycles and many small motorcycle models mainly use batteries because of the cheaper price.
Batteries contain large amounts of lead, which belongs to the group of hazardous wastes. When used for a long time, lead in electric batteries and plastic shells is discharged into the environment, which can cause pollution and be toxic to human health if there is no treatment process. Therefore, according to current regulations, production and trading enterprises will have to be directly responsible for recalling and disposing of sold products. Meanwhile, floating vehicles of unknown origin are not subject to the recall and disposal process.
Replacing batteries with current electric bicycles is quite easy and the cost is getting cheaper. In fact, with many types of used cars, users often bring themselves to small and retail stores for replacement and handling. Even many stores selling electric cars advertise that users can buy and replace at home. This can have long-term effects and consequences on the environment as batteries are discarded after a few years of use without being recovered and disposed of properly.
